Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What kinds of recycling plants can Operations Manager work on?
Operations Manager can be utilized to track information for most major types of recycling plant including shredders, shears, heavy media plants and non-ferrous separators. Each system is tailored to the actual plant configuration, for example the delay tracking screens will match the layout of your plant.

Q. What kind of data is tracked?
Operations Manager can be used to track all types of information from your plant. As a guide, Mayer consultants, experienced in this field, can suggest the most common information to monitor. For example on a shredder our consultants would suggest around 20 to 30 different variables including rotor speed, mill temperature, mill power usage etc. etc. This is all decided during the project panning an survey stages.

Q. How does the system track data?
Operations Manager tracking comes as 2 parts. The tracking part uses PC and software technology to collect data via a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). PLC's that can be used could be Allen Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens or other leading manufacturers. The system uses special software along with a touch screen interface to directly track data and store it into a database.

Q. How are delays tracked?
The touch screen interface is usually displaying valuable run-time information on how the plant is operating. As soon as the software detects that the plant is in a delay state, the touch screen switches over to a graphical delay entry screen which allows the operator to allow them to accurately select the delay and reason. The screens are designed to logically reflect the configuration and layout of your plant.

Q. How does the software know a delay has occurred?
The software allows configuration to identify a delay state. This could be, for example, that a shredder rotor is spinning under a minimum RPM for a given length of time.

Q. What hardware and software platforms does Operations Manager run on?
We support probably the largest range of hardware and software platforms in our industry. Windows PC's whether they be Windows 95, 98 or NT are fine. In addition we support Windows NT and UNIX with either Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase or DB/2 databases.
